Magical tool and invitation
Blessed Spring Equinox to all. While we are not gathering in person for a ritual as we had planned the Upper Mississippi River Reclaiming (UMRR) Ritual Planning Cell offer a magical tool and an invitation into a collective magical working using that tool.
The Care Pentacle
The Care Pentacle is for both giving and receiving care, including self-care (giving care to yourself and receiving care from yourself). It can apply to how we show up for care in community as a whole and how we navigate care in 1:1 relationships.
If you are not familiar with “running a pentacle” in your body the article, Pentacle Of Yourself: Creating Your Own Body Pentacle is a brief introduction to working with pentacles.
The points of the care pentacle are
- Interdependence (head)
- Boundaries (right foot)
- Vulnerability (Left Hand)
- Integrity (Right Hand)
- Creativity (Left Foot)
The working starts with watching (or listening to) the video of Galen introducing the pentacle and sharing the Care Pentacle song they made.
Then, start working with the pentacle.
Run the pentacle in your body, write it down, sing the song.
You might want to do some altar work with the pentacle or sing it with your kids while you’re out on a walk.
Finally, share your own video, photo, art or writing about your work with this tool. This could look a lot of different ways. Maybe you send a video of your hearth-mates singing the song to your friends or grandparents. Maybe you post a response on the UMRR Facebook page. Maybe you are inspired to share a video or some art on your personal social media page. However it looks for you the goal is to share YOU working this magic (even if you don’t tell them it’s magic) with your family, friends and community.
May this magic bring us into greater balance within ourselves, our communities and all living things.
Blessed be.

Hey everybody. Happy Equinox. Blessed Equinox to you.
I’m here to share with you the Care Pentacle and the Care Pentacle song so that we can work this magic together for this Equinox.
So the pentacle goes like this:
- Starts at the top – interdependence
- Down, running that energy down to the right foot – boundaries.
- Back up across the body and into the left hand – vulnerability
- From vulnerability across the chest into the right hand – integrity
- And from integrity down back through the body into the left foot to creativity
- And back up to interdependence.
Here’s the song
To care, and be cared for. To receive, and to give. To care, and be cared for is how we live.
It takes interdependence with boundaries and vulnerability. Integrity and creativity (Repeat x3)
To care, and be cared for. To receive, and to give. To care, and be cared for is how we live.
*This pentacle was created by Galen Smith with assistance from Diane Long. Some of Galen’s influences in creating this were: All of the Pentacles they have learned (Elements, Iron, Pearl, Great Turning), The Community Pentacle by Teri Parsley Starnes (Tere), The work of Sins Invalid, Mia Mingus, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Eli Clare, Sebastian Margaret and Galen’s own experiences of giving/receiving and sharing care.
